Advice from Lola, dietician-nutritionist
“A deficiency of omega-3 and omega-6 in seniors can be a cause for concern, as these fatty acids play a crucial role in maintaining health and well-being as we age. Older people may be more susceptible to omega-3 and omega-6 deficiency due to a variety of factors, such as digestive problems, reduced appetite, dietary restrictions, chewing or swallowing problems, as well as changes in fatty acid metabolism. A varied, balanced diet helps prevent deficiencies.”
Omega 3 and 6
Omega 3 and 6 are essential for normal growth and physiological cell functions.¹
The precursors and major representatives of these fatty acids are alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), an Omega 3, and linoleic acid (LA), an Omega 6.
Alpha-linoleic acid (ALA) & linoleic acid (LA) help maintain normal cholesterol levels.²
Vitamin E
Vitamin E helps protect cells against oxidative stress.
Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant.
DHA
Docosahexaneoic acid (DHA) contributes to normal brain function, normal vision and normal heart function.

Add oil as a seasoning to your dishes (salads, steamed vegetables, cereals, soups or even to marinate meat or fish). Try incorporating oil into your diet on a regular basis to reap the long-term benefits. Not a substitute for a balanced diet. It’s important to provide your child with a range of healthy, nutritious foods to meet his or her overall nutritional needs.
Be sure not to heat the oil, as this may alter its quality and reduce its benefits. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
